I’ve seen several articles on the internet which list Exchange 2000 version information, others that list Exchange 2003 version information, but I’ve been searching for a while for a listing of ALL the versions.
Here some of the individual versions :

You can use Log Parser for a huge variety of things, including looking at Enterprise Vault data.

You can change the sort order which is used when results are returned to the Outlook Integrated Search of Enterprise Vault. Normally you get something back like this :
You see the dates are in a bit of a random order there. Most people are used to trying to think of findings things “around” a particular date, so you can change it so that the default sort order is date.

There are many uses for Process Monitor, the former Sysinternals tool, now developed at Microsoft. One such use is to see which process or executable loaded a particular DLL – and what version it is.
First of all you can get Process Monitor from this link :

Prior to Enterprise Vault 8 SP 4, if you tried to install the Vault Administration Console on a Windows 7 client machine, the installation goes through checking the pre-reqs, but installation stops with the following shown in Deployment Scanner :
With Enterprise Vault 8 SP 4, you can now install the VAC, and it works quite nicely.

In the Event Viewer on my normal Enterprise Vault repro server, I was rather startled to get a pop-up when I clicked on the Help and Support hyperlinks :

So it says to start the Help and Support service. Fine…. I thought. I looked in the Services MMC but I can’t see Help and Support :

Everyone thinks it is a bit of a pain having to logon to their EV server in order to read the event logs, to find out some information. You can of course, read the event logs remotely, and here I’ll describe how.
Grab the DLL
You have to grab the DLL VaultMessages.DLL from the Enterprise Vault server. These do vary from version to version of EV, so it’s best to get the one of your EV server, and make a note to replace it when you upgrade to the next service pack, or version.

One of the newest entries on the late breaking news article for EV 8 SP 4 (http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/350361.htm) is an issue relating to opening archived items with the 8 SP 4 client when you have those items in Vault Cache.
The issue that the item doesn't get pulled from your Vault Cache, it's downloaded on the fly from the EV server.
This of course has a couple of side effects notably :-

One of the things that Enterprise Vault allows you to create is Shared Archives. These don't have a mailbox associated with them, and don't have a folder structure, ie they are "flat" or "unstructured" (some people will remember this was the case in the early days of EV with mailbox archives).
I'm curious if people use them extensively, or for specific purposes. Do you use them?
One of the ways of creating these archives is to use EVPM, but you can also create them directly in the VAC. You can use either method to give people permission to items in the archive, and like a regular archive you can choose whether those permissions are read/write/etc

If you have configured EV to keep items that are deleted from a user archive, they're kept for a period of days (much like the Exchange dumpster). What seems like odd behaviour can occur if you then export that archive. Those items that have been deleted, but kept by Enterprise Vault are still exported from the archive.
This is under consideration for changing in the future, perhaps giving the administrator the option during the export as to whether they want those items exported or not.
